American college campuses appear to be soon running rampant with gun wielding sociopaths who are choosing to alleviate their educational failures by killing fellow students and capability. However, campus shootings are non a new phenomenon. In August of 1966, Charles Whitman climbed to the top of the clock editorial on the University of Texas campus and killed fourteen people while piercing 31 others. In February, 2010, a college professor shot six of her colleagues, wounding three and killing three. As recently as September, 2010, the University of Texas had a caller report a masked gunman on campus. Within seven minutes the dispatcher had alerted 53,000 people through and through a text message warning and sounded the campus siren 5 minutes after that. Minutes after Austin constabulary officers reported that the gunman was dead. Until the authorities were sure that the campus was once once again safe, all students and faculty were to remain under lockdown.
