David Thomson was born in Westminster, London, on April 30, 1770. Thompson was the son of David and Anne Thompson, recent Welsh immigrants to England. Thompsons father died devil years after his birth, leaving the family in financial ruin. When Thompson glum fourteen he began a seven-year apprenticeship with the Hudsons Bay society (HBC), forever leaving England to begin a new intent in Canada in 1784.
Thompson began his career with the HBC by being stationed on the western shore of Hudson Bay under Samuel Hearne.
