However, things changed mostly to maven mans dissatisfaction with the Catholic Church. The Church was excessively facing widespread criticism for some controversial actions that it was taking.
In the sixteenth part century, the perform was facing widespread criticism from many unlike people. One of the reasons for the criticism was the Black Death. This was a major epidemic in the fourteenth century and killed thousands of people. It broke down the societies in Europe. Another reason for criticism was due to the Great Schism, which created cardinal popes and weakened the Catholic Church. Corruption and abuses of Church power also led to criticism. One act of abusing power was simony, which was the selling of church offices to common men. This led to many priests being illiterate and humiliation with the people. Another act of abusing power was the selling of indulgences, which was a style of buying forgiveness. The Church claimed that these were acts that were used to raise funds for the Catholic Church.



The Church was also facing criticism because fewer priests were rest celibate, which is against the rules of the Catholic Church. People were also unhappy with the pope because they bank he was becoming too involved with worldly personal matters and that the Church doesnt allow for new ideas. The Renaissance also sparked a new interest in humanism and re-inspired reviewing the classical writings. This caused people to rethink facts the Church had cemented in their minds.
