Romeo and Juliet

Compare how Romeos feelings of issue for Rosaline differ to his feelings for Juliet. How does Shakespeare use speech and expression to convey Romeos feelings?

Romeo is the main character who I will be discussing in William Shakespeares play of Romeo and Juliet. William Shakespeare was born(p) in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564. Romeo and Juliet is about two star pass over dealrs who are unable to be to constructher due to a family feud which ultimately results in deaths. The play is set in Verona however its unknown when the play was written. In this rise I will be comparing how Romeos feelings of cope for Rosaline differ to those for Juliet. Furthermore, I will be discussing how Shakespeare uses language and structure to convey Romeos feelings of love.

At the beginning of the play in Act 1 Scene 1. Shakespeare portrays Romeo as confused towards his feelings of love towards Rosaline. This is demonstrated by the use of legion(predicate) oxymorons.

In the first monologue, Shakespeare uses many oxymorons. In the play, the oxymorons help to highlight the conflict with others besides also with oneself. Furthermore, they emphasise his confusion towards love as an oxymoron contradicts itself which shows he is unsure about his actions and feelings.

This portrays Romeos character as unwanted and maybe quite lonely as he is aware that Rosaline, the cleaning lady he loves, has sworn to chastity and to be a nun.

Although his work out of love completely differs in Act 2, Scene 2 as he meets Juliet and this is shown by Iambic Pentameter. Iambic Pentameter is when a line has 10 syllables of alternating stressed and unstressed syllables. Shakespeare begins the soliloquy by using iambic pentameter but breaks it in the imprimatur line. This makes the line stand out and makes the reader realise that it is an Copernican line, as it is the first line of which he is describing Juliet.
