The Metaphors of Edward Taylor

Edward Taylor is an Ameri earth-closet colonial pastor and poet. Taylor mainly utilise his literature and sermons to talk about his belief in idol. Taylor believed strongly in John Calvins philosophy of TULIP. TULIP stands for total depravity, unconditional election, expressage atonement, irresistible grace, and perseverance of the saints. Taylors first metaphor comes in stanza two of Meditation One. It says, For thine Elect, there rose a mighty Tide! (Line 10). Edward Taylor is using the idea of running and overflowing water to describe savour ingurgitateing up heaven. Gods elect are the people that are chosen by God to put on salvation. Taylor then goes on to describe that the zoom will fill up the person by declaring That there our Veans might by means of thy Person bleed, (11). Taylor uses this to show the course running through the veins of the person. The tide is ultimately meant To quench those flames, that else would on us feed (12). The tide, or Gods love for us, was so abundant that it ran rase into hell and lifted up all of the elect and brought them into heaven.



God showed his grace to His chosen people and, once they saw it, they chose to fulfil Jesus and the salvation that comes from Him. Jesus Christ is the mighty tide and only He can truly wash out-of-door sins.
Another great metaphor in this poem can be found in stanza three. This metaphor says, My Fireless Flame! What cayenne pepper Love, and Cold? /In measure small! In modal value Chilly! See. (16-17). This represents the heart of the person and how it is cold (16) and chilly (17) without the consecrate Spirit residing in it.
